Sketches of Etruscan places 1927.

Corrected carbon and original typescript for Tarquinia (chapt. II), The painted tombs of Tarquinia (III), and Volterra (VI) which were originally published in Etruscan Places (Martin Secker, 1932). The typescript is heavily corrected in several hands. Dating of typescript is based on the chronology published in the Cambridge Edition (1992) of Sketches of Etruscan Places and other Italian Essays (p. xiv). Stamped on each chapter title-page is the following statement: Please return to Curtis Brown Ltd. 116 West 9th St., New York City.

David Herbert Richards Lawrence was born September 11, 1885, in Eastwood, near Nottingham, to Arthur Lawrence, a coal miner, and Lydia Beardsall. He attended Nottingham University College, and in 1908 he took a teaching position at Davidson Road School in Croydon. Lawrence wrote in his spare time, and in 1911, with the help of Ford Maddox Hueffer, he published his first novel, The White Peacock .
